5. Laser Cavity (532nm)
The Laser Cavity converts the 808nm Laser Diode source beam that is delivered
via the Fiber Link first to a 1064nm beam which is then Frequency Doubled using
a special crystal to the 532nm Green Laser beam. The Laser Cavity is a sealed unit
and there are no Field Service parts inside. There are “non removable” labels
placed on the cavity to prevent access. If these labels are damaged then all
warranties are void.
The Cavity is sealed due to the sensitive nature of the internal components to
airborne contamination and water that may be in the air. A block diagram that
shows to basic internal functions to the cavity is included earlier in this section.
After the 532nm beam is produced then it is combined with the Aiming beam and
then a small amount of the beam is split off to be used by a detector to sense the
output power and form the closed loop constant Power Controller circuit. A
second detector is used as a failsafe backup in the event of a failure within the
Control loop.
The Laser beams are then focused to a small spot in order to be able to be
focused into the Optical fiber. A mechanical Shutter that blocks the output
beam path at all times except when the Laser is being fired in the Treat Mode
operates between the Focus Lens and the Fiber end. Two micro-switches
position will acknowledge the system shutter position either in open or closed.
