Out of Disk Space
If a disk runs out of space, a message will appear (Figure 10-14) every time
an attempt is made to write to the disk.
When this happens, remember that powering off and back on will never fix
this problem. The proper way to fix the problem is to defragment the disk
(
Defragmenting Disks on page 10-18). If there are files on the disk that you
can delete, do so before defragmenting. Note that deleting these files will
cause the ÒOut of disk spaceÓ message to appear at least once for each file de-
leted, but persevere, and press
enter each time to clear the message. Defrag-
menting will ultimately fix the problem.
Out of Disk Space on _Temp_$$$_Temp_
(or on _Swap_$$$_Swap). When this message occurs, it means the hidden
disk is out of space. This can happen when a full disk is defragmented, and
the defragment doesnÕt recover any space. The remedy to this situation is a
two step process:
1 Bring the hidden disk on-line
This is described in Using the Hidden Disk on page 10-19; in the Filer, press
K
, then
f3
, and name it temp .
2 Take the temp disk back off line
From the Filer, press K , then f3 , and select the temp disk to take off line. Tak-
ing the disk off line will format it, and make it available for use with defrag-
menting again.
