Heat sink

•

CAUTION:

The heat sink might be very hot. Turn off the server and wait three to five minutes to let the server
cool before removing the server cover.

Removing the heat sink

To remove the heat sink, do the following:

1. Prepare your server. See “Preparing your server in advance” on page 47.

2. Remove the air baffle. See “Removing the air baffle” on page 50.

3. Locate the heat sink and remove the four screws that secure the heat sink. It is recommended that

you carefully remove the four screws from the system board using the following method to avoid any
possible damage to the system board.

a. Partially remove screw

, then completely remove screw

, and then return to screw

and

completely remove it.

b. Partially remove screw

, then completely remove screw

, and then return to screw

and

completely remove it.

Note:

The four screws are integrated parts of the heat sink. Do not try to remove the four screws

from the heat sink.

4. Gently twist the heat sink to free it from the microprocessor, lift the heat sink off the system board, and

then lay it down by its side. Do not touch the thermal grease on the bottom of the heat sink.
