a. Release two retaining clips

at the corner of the microprocessor retainer and then release the other

two retaining clips

as shown. Then, lift the retainer

with the microprocessor from the heat-sink-

and-fan assembly. Set the heat-sink-and-fan assembly aside.

Notes:

• Ensure that the thermal grease on the bottom of the heat-sink-and-fan assembly does not get in

contact with anything.

• Do not drop anything onto the microprocessor socket while it is exposed. The socket pins must

be kept as clean as possible.

• The following illustration uses heat-sink-and-fan assembly 1 as an example. If you are removing

the microprocessor retainer from heat-sink-and-fan-assembly 2, follow the same procedure.
