2. To test for proper operation, place the lower unit in water in a suitable
water supply. The water level should be approximately 9½ to 11½
inches below the top of the boat transom or test tank transom.
3. Start the engine and allow to warm up. Check for water flow at the
cooling water pitot hole or overboard indicator. If there is no water flow
check that the pitot hole is not clogged with debri.
If still no water flow, remove the thermostat hose from the thermostat
cover. If no water is present at the thermostat cover nipple, and there
is no combustion chamber pressure

present in the nipple, then re-
move and check the thermostat for debris or damage.
If thermostat is clean and functioning and and housing is clear of de-
bris, it is probable that the water pump needs servicing.

Combustion chamber pressure: A blown head gasket could also cause a
loss of cooling water, overheating and poor running engine.
