Cleat
A device to grip ropes and hold them in place
–
some grip automatically, while others need the rope tying
around them
Clew
Lower corner of the sail, closest to the stern
Close Hauled
Sailing as close to the wind as you can; point of
sailing to sail upwind
Cockpit
The open area in the boat providing space for the
`helm and the crew
