Exhaust Ports
Carbon deposit build–up causes excessive wear and
loss of power. Check and clean if necessary.
1.
Remove spark plug and tip mower on its right
side. See SPARK PLUG.
2.
Remove blade nut and blade. See BLADE
REMOVAL.
3.
Remove blade driver by tapping with plastic or
fiber hammer in the direction of rotation
(Fig. 29). This will loosen the blade driver from
taper on crankshaft.

4.
Remove bolts attaching muffler and crankshaft
support (Fig. 30).

5.
Rotate crankshaft slowly until piston covers
exhaust ports (Fig. 31).

6.
Using a 3/8 inch wooden dowel loosen carbon
deposits by inserting dowel into ports.
Note:
Do not use metal tools; they could
scratch piston.
7.
Set mower upright.
8.
Holding blade control bail against handle pull
starter rope several times to blow out loose
carbon (Fig. 32).
