Motion Control
The Model 425HD-MD Articulator is equipped with two hydraulic pumps, one operating
each rear drive wheel. These pumps are controlled separately with each of the steering
control arms (located to the left and right of the operator seat).
Pushing a steering control arm forward activates the hydraulic pump on the correspond-
ing side, turning the drive wheel in the corresponding direction. (i.e., pushing the right
steering control arm forward activates the right drive wheel in the forward direction. Pull-
ing the right steering control arm back activates the right drive wheel in the reverse direc-
tion.)
The steering control arms also govern the ground speed of the Articulator. The farther
from the neutral position the arm is pushed or pulled, the faster the corresponding drive
wheel turns. Always use the steering control arms to regulate ground speed - NOT the
throttle control.
Buckle the seatbelt. Always wear the seatbelt when operating the Articulator. Clear the
entire area of all personnel before operating the Articulator. Verify that all safety covers
are in place and secure before operating the Articulator.
Start the engine (refer to the Starting The Engine section of this manual for the proper
procedures).
Release the parking brake. Verify that both the parking brake indicator light (located in
the upper right corner of the control panel) and the audible parking brake alarm are deac-
tivated before attempting any travel with the Articulator.
In order to maneuver the Articulator, you must first remove both steering control arms
from the neutral lock position. Simply grasp each steering control arm with each hand,
and pull them both toward the operator seat until they are free from the neutral lock. You
are now ready to begin maneuvering the Articulator. Following are the proper steering
procedures:
To travel forward:
Push both control levers forward evenly. The farther they are
pushed, the faster the Articulator travels.
To travel in reverse:
Pull both control levers backward evenly. The farther they are
pushed, the faster the Articulator travels.
ALWAYS clear the entire area of all personnel before operating the
Articulator!
ALWAYS wear the seatbelt when operating the Articulator!
ALWAYS verify that all safety covers are in place and secure before
operating the Articulator!
