425HD-MD INITIAL SETUP
3.28 Battery
The Articulator utilizes a 12-volt battery. Ratings: CA@32°F=680; CCA@0°F=540. The
battery is located inside the covered utility box behind the right rear fender. To access,
release the rubber latch on the back of the utility box and open the lid. Be sure both bat-
tery cables and connections are secure, clean, and in good condition. Be sure both rub-
ber connector boots are in place and secure.
Close the utility box lid and secure the rubber latch.
Check to see that the battery is sufficiently charged. To do this, you will need to momen-
tarily start the engine. From the operator seat, first verifying that all auxiliary switches on
the control panel are in the OFF position. Verify that both steering control arms are locked
into neutral position. Turn the key switch clockwise to the RUN position. DO NOT START
THE ENGINE. Verify that the neutral start and operator present indicator lights are acti-
vated (the two green lights on the control panel directly above the key switch). If the oper-
ator present switch is not activated, or the steering control arms are not locked into
neutral position, you cannot crank the engine.
Once you have verified the activation of both the operator present and neutral start lights,
Turn the key switch to the GLOW position (counter-clockwise), for a maximum of 9 sec-
onds, to preheat the glow plugs. After 9 seconds, the audible warning beeper will sound,
signifying adequate preheat. Then turn the key switch clockwise to the START position,
and start the engine. If the battery charge is not sufficient to crank the engine, charge the
battery. If, after charging, the battery charge is not sufficient to crank the engine, you may
need to replace the battery.
If changing the battery, be sure all control switches are in the OFF position before discon-
necting the negative (-) ground cable. Otherwise, sparking and explosion are possible!
Batteries produce explosive hydrogen gas while being charged. To prevent fire or explo-
sion, only charge batteries in well-ventilated areas, away from any spark, open flame, or
other sources of ignition. Always remove jewelry before handling batteries.
Keep all bat-
teries out of the reach of children!
