FA2100 PORTABLE INTERFACE (PI) DESCRIPTION

The Portable Interface Unit (Figure 1

−

1), P/Ns 17TES0043, is a hand-held unit that provides a

communication interface to the FA2100 Recorder. The user interface, a seven key keypad,
and an eight line by 21 column display, allows stand-alone operation to perform the following
functions:

Data Link Download

Status Display

The PI is equipped with an internal speaker, headphone jack, and individual channel outputs to
monitor audio during the recording operation, as well as to play back previously recorded audio
when the aircraft has landed.

Power to operate the PI is obtained from the FA2100 recorder when the attached 10-foot cable
is plugged into the GSE connector on the front panel of the recorder. Alternately, the Auxiliary
Power Cable, P/N 17TES0074, may be used to provide power to the PI in stand alone opera-
tion.

For all PIs produced after S/N 231480, the interface connector has been modified to prevent
any potential grounding issues. Modification can be identified by marking of Hardware Mod.
Dot 5. Any PIs in the field sent in for repairs post PI SB002 will receive this product improve-
ment free of charge. Please contact L-3 Communications Aviation Recorders for more im-
formation.
