2. Requirements for encoders of Category 3G and 3D according to Directive 2014/34/EU
• When mounted, the protection level must be at least IP6X. This level is achieved using suitable sealing means.
• The maximum surface temperature T
max
(°C) of the equipment shall not exceed 2/3 of the ignition temperature of
the concerned dust-air mixture.

- 75K
T
5mm
= Glow temperature of a 5 mm thick dust layer (°C)
• No sparks, electrical arcs or impermissible temperatures shall occur during operation.
• When mounted, the equipment must show sufficient mechanical resistance.
• The operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C shall not be undershot, respectively overshot.
• The connection area (e.g. open cable strands, voltage-free connecting operation, SUB-D connector, etc.) is to
be protected suitably so that it meets the requirements of Zone 2/22!
• Accessories such as connectors and cables must comply with standards EN 60079-0 and EN 60079-15.
Electrical connection of the device
• Measures must be taken in order to prevent exceeding the supply voltage by more that 40% in case of tempo-
rary disturbances.
=>
The device has a short-term protection by means of an internal varistor (
max. 10 ms
).
EU manufacturer´s declaration and “special terms” (X)
The encoder may not meet the requirements of standard EN 60079-0, Section 26.4.2, “Impact test”. The device
can nevertheless be operated in Zone 2/22, provided the operator ensures that stresses as required in this sec-
tion of the standard are avoided on the encoder in operation.
