GETTING STARTED
MAINS CONNECTION
The KS
CPD 14
is designed for operation on AC networks. The wide-range switching power supply
works with voltages between 100V and 250V. The connection is made via PowerCon supply cable
with protective conductor. The controller / amplifier bays are VDE-compliant with the protective
conductor and you should use only circuits with proper grounding for your safety. The efficiency of
all KS devices is very high; the effective power requirement is therefore low. Nevertheless, the
circuit must be protected so that the sum of the maximum current consumption of all connected
devices does not exceed the fuse value.
AUDIO CONNECTORS – LINE IN/OUT
All line/audio input and output connections are a balanced electronic type conforming to the XLR
international standard, nominal 20 kOhms for matching to a typical 50 ohm impedance line output
(grounding is on pin #1). For very long cable run installations, a transformer-balanced output is
preferable to avoid ground differentials and 60 Hz
hum loops over mixed type cable runs. The
impedance is 2x 10kOhm and is discreet
(independent for pin 2 and 3). Multiple devices can
share the same input signal by using the male-female
sockets as a daisy chained audio link. A total of only 1
dB of signal loss on the input signal is seen when up
to 20 devices are sharing the same input signal. Digital AES/EBU lines should be run with 110 Ohm
cable impedance. You can daisy chain as many products you wish, as the XLR male outputs feature
an active line transmitter.
KS AUDIO recommends employing "balanced input connections”.
DIGITAL AES/EBU INPUT
The
CPD 14
amplifiers have a unique feature: the signal inputs detect the presence of a digital AES
/ EBU standard signal. An automatic switchover makes the XLR M socket the active driven output.
Clock rates of 32-96 kHz are adjusted by an SRC for internal processing. The keyboard determines
the channel assignment.
THE CPD 14 AS A SATELLITE
In conjunction with low bass systems such as CPD W1, the
CPD 14
is used with the help of the
LowCut function only above its frequency range. The KS subwoofers have a 70 or 120Hz switchable
low pass. The connection is made from the preamplifier / mixer to the subwoofer or the
CPD 14
in
any order and from the respective parallel output to the other system. It is important to make sure
that the connection is in correct phase. If the
CPD 14
is to be used in conjunction with other
subwoofers or full-range loudspeakers with sufficient low-bass content, the phase must first be
checked.
