C370 Gearbox Repair
Place sawframe in the most convenient location for this repair job, keeping in mind that you will
need access to the four mounting bolts that fix the motor to the gearbox. You may find it more
convenient to also remove the blade guard, depending upon the degree of repair you are
performing.
Disconnect electrical supply from machine.
Remove four bolts that attach motor to gearbox, and lift motor out of the way.
Drain oil by removing oil plug #430.
Replacing vertical steel worm gear assembly - #449
Remove four sets of screw & washer (450, 451, 452) that hold this assembly in place.
Lift entire assembly straight up and out of the gearbox.
Examine assembly and determine whether you need to replace any of these parts. If the
bottom of the vertical shaft is damaged, you should also replace needle bearing # 439 in bottom
of gearbox housing.
Replacing lower needle bearing assembly - #439
Remove four screws # 419 that hold the lower cover #418 plate in place. This will have to be
pried out, as it is fitted in place with silicone sealer to prevent leaking.
Remove two screws #417, and then remove plate #421, the bearing carrier.
Replace bearing #439, and put this bearing carrier back into place.
Prior to locking it in place you will want to mount the vertical steel worm gear assembly #419
firmly in place, then align the needle bearing to it.
Using silicone as sealer, replace plate #418 and tighten four screws #419.
For access to the bronze gear and drive spindle, proceed as follows.
Remove aluminum plate #429 on side of gearbox. This is necessary to provide access to the
bronze gear & drive spindle assembly. First remove set screw #422 in the bottom of the
gearbox housing. The aluminum plate is also held in place with an 0-ring. You will most likely
need to push from the inside of the gearbox.
Replacing bronze gear - # 426
Examine locking tab, bend tab out of the way from locking ring #427, and remove both items.
Using 2 M8 screws threaded into the side of the bronze gear as pullers, extract the bronze gear.
Removing drive spindle assembly - #410
Examine locking washer #408 and locate the locking tab that interlocks with the locking ring
#409. Bend tab out of the way, and remove locking ring #409
Extract drive spindle #410 out of the hole to the left (possibly using a soft drive bar to drive from
the opposite end).
Take care not to damage the bearings, as they should not have to be replaced unless the
bronze gear has excessive wear and the oil is full of bronze.
The oil seal should be replaced.
