Minimum noncombustible material above
fireplace opening must be no less than
shown in the figures above.
Noncombustible materials (slate, marble,
tile, etc.) must be at least 1/2” thick, if
sheet metal is used, you must have a non-
combustible material behind it.
IMPORTANT:
If these minimum clear-
ances are not possible or if local codes do
not permit vent-free operation, you must
operate the heater with the damper open.
