8 Use of optional accessories
8.1 Polarization unit (transmitted light)
The polarization unit consists of a polarizer and an analyzer.
The same slide that is part of the incident light unit is used as the analyzer (
see figure
on page 8
).
The polarizer is a round element with a black frame and a dark glass pane in the
middle. It is simply placed on the ring holder of the field lens (
see illustration
).
For the subsequent use of the polarization unit, two points must be observed:
•
The aperture setting of the condenser must be in position PH.
•
For its initial position, the polarizer or analyzer must be rotated to the position
where the highest degree of darkness is perceived in the field of view (without
specimen).
