TS-870S FAQ
Q. How does my TS-870S interface with a computer?
A. The back of the TS-870S has a RS232 port with a DB-9 connector, you do
not need to buy any optional external interface unit for the TS-870S
It is pretty simple just get a straight through DB-9 to DB-9 for computer hook up.
Q. Can the TS-870S be controlled remotely?
A. Yes it can with Kenwood Sky Command using either TWO TH-79AKSS, or TWO TH-
D7A, or TWO TM-D700A, or ONE TH-D7A, and ONE TM-D700A. Some optional cables are
required for use with the handheld’s, and mobile radio’s.
Q. Does my TS-870S require any optional filters?
A. No it does not require any optional filters. It does all its filtering through the IF DSP in the TS-
870S.
Q. Does the TS-870S have an automatic antenna tuner?
A. Yes, and its will tune 10-160 meters.
Q. What are the connections for hooking up an amplifier?
A. Pin 4 is relay, Pin 2 is Ground, and Pin 6 is ALC
Q. I have made the right connection for an amplifier, but my amplifier does work why?
A. Go to menu 51, and turn the amplifier relay to the 1, 2 position.
Q. Is the tone/encoder unit included in the TS-870S?
A. Yes, its on menu number 57
Q. Can the TS-870S be used with digital modes such as packet, and PSK-31?
A. Yes

Q. Does the TS-950SDX come with a built-in power supply, or does it run off 12 volts
A. It comes with a built-in power supply for direct AC connections.
Q. What is the power output of the TS-950SDX?
A. 200 watts output
Q. Can you run split frequency operation, and listen to both VFO’s?
A. Yes you may run split operation, and listen to both sides of the conversation on VFO
A, and VFO B simalteously within the same band.
