Always use a probe when measuring p u l s e s or s i g n a l s of a few hundred kHz or above.
T h i s i s because d i s t o r t i o n w i l l o c c u r i n the waveform's h i g h f r e q u e n c y component due to
the use of long l e a d s . T h i s makes i t d i f f i c u l t to conduct a c c u r a t e waveforms. T h i s i s
a l s o t r u e f o r p r o b e s w i t h l o n g ground l e a d s , so keep them a s s h o r t as p o s s i b l e .
In
a d d i t i o n , e n s u r e the ground l e a d c l i p i s c o n n e c t e d to a ground p o t e n t i a l c l o s e to the
s i g n a l to be measured.

When measuring time between two p o i n t s , measurements can be determined from SWEEP TIME/DIV
and h o r i z o n t a l d i s t a n c e .
1) D i s p l a y the waveform by a d j u s t i n g each c o n t r o l . Set a l l the VARIABLE c o n t r o l s to the
CAL p o s i t i o n .
2 ) Use the ^ • P O S I T I O N c o n t r o l t o b r i n g one p o i n t t o be m e a s u r e d i n l i n e w i t h a
V e r t i c a l g r a d u a t i o n l i n e . Then, use the y POSITION c o n t r o l to b r i n g the o t h e r point
to be measured i n l i n e w i t h the h o r i z o n t a l s c a l e i n the middle of the CRT.
3 ) Measure t h e h o r i z o n t a l d i s t a n c e between t h e two p o i n t s . M u l t i p l y t h i s v a l u e by the
SWEEP TIME/DIV s e t t i n g v a l u e . I f the x 10 MAG f u n c t i o n i s a c t i v a t e d , m u l t i p l y the
v a l u e by 1/10.
