Model 7072-TRT Triax Removal Tool

Information

Overview

Warning!

To prevent electric shock that could result in injury or death, NEVER use this
tool to connect or disconnect a connector or cable that has power applied to
it, and NEVER use this tool to connect or disconnect a cable to an
instrument that is powered on. Just turning off the instrument is not enough
as the cable(s) may have power applied from the opposite end. Ensure that
all power in the system has been disconnected before attempting to connect
or disconnect any cables or connectors. This tool is intended for use by
qualified service personnel only.

The 7072-TRT may be used to connect or disconnect triax style connectors from an instrument or switching card. It
is a useful aid when clearance or access to a connector is limited making it difficult to mate or unmate a connector
manually using your fingers.

Refer to

Figure 1

 and follow the instructions below.

Connecting a triax style cable

To connect a triax style cable to an instrument:

1.  Ensure all power is removed from the instrument and the cable.  Failure to remove all power may expose

personnel to hazardous voltages.

2.  Guide the cable through the slot in the 7072-TRT and slide the cable until the connector slides into the open

end of the 7072-TRT.  The connector is friction fit into the 7072-TRT. Press the connector gently into the end of
the tool. Do not pull on the cable to seat the connector into the tool.

3.  Using the 7072-TRT, guide the cable end connector over the mating connector.

4.  Gently rotate the connector using the tool until the two connectors are properly aligned.

5.  Press gently on the tool to seat the cable connector fully onto the mating connector.

6.  Gently rotate the tool clockwise to lock the connectors together properly.

7.  Gently withdraw the tool from the mated connectors and slide it free of the cable.

To disconnect a triax style cable connector from an instrument:

1.  Ensure all power is removed from the instrument and the cable. Failure to remove all power may expose

personnel to hazardous voltages.

2.  Guide the slot in the end of the 7072-TRT over the desired cable.

3.  Slide the tool along the cable until the connector slides into the open end of the 7072-TRT. The connector is

friction fit into the 7072-TRT. Gently press on the tool to allow the tool to grasp the connector.

4.  Seat the tool onto the connector just firmly enough to allow rotating the connector to unlock it from the mating

connector. Pressing too hard may damage the connector or tool.

5.  Rotate the tool counterclockwise to unlock the cable connector from the mating connector.

6.  While gently rocking the tool a small amount, pull slowly back on the tool to unmate the cable connector from

the mating connector. Do not pull on the cable to disconnect it.
