5.
Insufficient protection to electrical cord may result in electric shock to animals and operator.
Damage to power cord caused by insufficient protection is not covered by warranty. IMPORTANT –
take precautions when installing mats.
a.
Route the power supply cord in such a way as to protect it from damage by animals,
equipment, and personnel.
6.
Inspection, Installation, Connecting the power supply, and operation
Step 1
Inspection
Inspect the product to ensure no damage occurred during shipment and handling. Ensure
the power cord and plug is not damaged and securely fastened to the heat mat. Inspect the
surface of the mat for obvious damage or cracks.
Step 2
Installation 110/120 Volt
Place the mat in the desired location with the electrical cord closest to the wall. It is
recommended that you use ¼ inch plastic ties or screws in the predrilled holes to fasten
the mat to the floor. To prevent electrical cord damage, cover power cord with 1 ½ inch
PVC pipe that ships with the PHMD48 & PHMS48 mats. Fasten the PVC pipe to a solid
structure to prevent unnecessary movement of the cord that may place stress on the
electrical plug.
Step 3
Installation 220/240 Volt
Hard wire the electrical cord into the nearest electrical box. If local electrical laws and
regulations allow, attach the appropriate plug to the cord and insert into power outlet.
Ensure a solid, continuous electrical connection. Allow an additional 5 inches of wire
available near the electrical box or power outlet to ensure there is no stress on the cord
Step 4
Operation
1. DO NOT COVER HEAT MAT WITH ANY TYPE
MATERIALS
2. KEEP SURFACE CLEAN AND FREE OF ANY DEBRIS
Turn on the heat mat using a thermostat/rheostat control, select the desired temperature.
Observing the animal’s usage of the mat is the best check for proper operation. If the
animal is not using the mat, the mats surface is too hot or too cold. Check the following
to correct the problem:
A. Is power getting to the mat? Place the palm of your hand on the mat and hold it there
for approximately one minute. If the power is on, the mat will feel warm to your hand.
