RF Router - English
Introduction
RF Router is a battery-operated network
component used in radio networks where
remote data reading of Kamstrup energy
meters is required.
RF Router enables the utility to build up
a network between the individual energy
meters and the central network unit,
RF Concentrator. RF Router transports the
requested data readings from the meter
to the central RF Concentrator.
One RF Router handles radio communi-
cation of up to 70 radio units (energy
meters/RF Routers/RF Concentrator).
A network consists of:
Kamstrup energy meters with radio
modules mounted in their module
area.
A number of RF Routers to estab-
lish communication between the RF
Concentrator and the individual energy
meters.
One or more RF Concentrator, depen-
ding on the number of energy meters,
the amount of data to be transferred
and the geographical distance
between energy meters and network
components.
A Kamstrup GSM3 modem for
sending and receiving data from
the RF Concentrator to the utility.
RF Router is available with either internal
or external antenna. To obtain optimum
coverage between radio module and RF
Router it is highly recommended to use
external antenna.

Basic rules of network installation
Installing meters and network compo-
nents, the following basic rules must
be observed:
RF Routers must be installed near
meters, as high as possible to secure
sufficient coverage.
If the energy meter is mounted in a
basement, RF Router must be mounted
above basement level.
All energy meters in basements must
be equipped with external antenna.
RF Routers must not to be mounted
too low (too close to the floor).
RF Routers must not to be mounted
too far into a corner.
RF Concentrators should have an
external antenna.
If an external antenna is used for
RF Router, install the external antenna
outside in vertical position to increase
the amount of energy meters that can
be read.
