Instruction Manual
Prior to first use of your Dutch Oven:
Before you can start to prepare dishes in your Dutch Oven the protective layer
of paraffin must be fully removed. To do so, place your Dutch Oven on a heat
source until the pot is lukewarm. Then wipe the pot with kitchen paper until it
does not absorb any more paraffin. Pour some plant oil in the pot and heat it
on the hearth. Use kitchen paper to rub the entire pot (in- and outside) as well
as the lid with oil. Make sure that a thin layer covers the entire Dutch Oven.
Remove excess oil as otherwise the remainders might become rancid. Your
Dutch Oven is now ready for use.
How to use your Dutch Oven:
Place the Dutch Oven on embers and place additional coals or briquettes on
top of the lid to make sure the heat is being evenly distributed. Do not place
the Dutch Oven directly in the flames, as it might get too hot and hence your
food will scorch. The Dutch Oven gets very hot during use. Please handle it
with care and use gloves and the handle included in the scope of delivery to lift
the lid.
Care and cleaning of the Dutch Oven:
Make sure, never to place your Dutch Oven in water as this will cause it to
rust. Do not fill cold water into the hot pot or hot water into the cold pot. The
Dutch Oven might break due to the temperature difference. Never place an
empty Dutch Oven on coals as it might warp or break. Do not touch the cast
iron surface of the Dutch Oven with any sharp or metal objects.
Never use washing up liquid or other cleansers! For cleaning please
follow the instructions below:
- Clean the Dutch Oven immediately after use and do not leave it dirty
overnight
- Place the pot in warm coals again as also for cleaning heat plays an
important role. Remove any leftover food with a spatula and kitchen
paper.
