JBL Cinema Vision™ Diagnostics (cont’d)
The following errors may indicate a malfunction in the CVR700:
•
Diffused picture
•
Jitter in the picture
•
Bad greyscale picture quality
•
Vertical or horizontal strips running across the picture
Connect a high quality Video Monitor or TV set to the three different types (Composite (CVBS), S-
Video (Y/C) and Component (Y/Pb/Pr or YUV) of Monitor Outputs on the CVR700.
If picture is OK on all three inputs of the Video Monitor/TV, then the issue may be within the Shielded
Video Control Box. Further testing should to be done. See next page for details.
If the problem can be seen at the video monitor outputs of the CVR700, then the issue is not with the
Shielded Video Control Box. Disconnect the Video Monitor/TV and redirect your attention to the
picture on the CVPD50 Plasma Display. Check if the above failures occur with all of the video-sources
or only with one. In order to do this, an external source which can display the same test patterns in
different video formats needs to be connected to CVR700.
If the problem occurs only with one video source, then a cable or video signal path circuitry inside the
CVR700 may be at fault.
CAUTION: IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Before removing the top cover of the CVR700, please
disconnect the AC power cord. If the CVR700 must be operated with its top cover off, use an AC
mains isolation transformer.
Refer to the drawing on last page of this section:
Test Set-up and connection diagram
Check all shielded cables going to the interface board, which is inside the Shielded Video Control
Box.
Check the 16 pin flex-cable (ITU-656), including the power-supply cable (7 pin CN-13 coming from the
SMPS).
Possible malfunctions: DVD/Receiver CVR700 (which includes Video signal processing for
CVPD50 PDP)
The Analog VGA PC and DVI/HDCP are directly connected to the Shielded Video Control Box. So if
there is a failure in displaying these signals (provided all OSD adjustments are correct), the Video
Board has a defect and needs to be replaced.
To check if the Shielded Video Control Box has any problems in displaying other types of signals, the
following signals with corresponding test patterns should be applied to the following cables:
- ITU656-signals to the flex-cable
- Component Video (Y/Pb/Pr or YUV-, HDTV) signals to the 6pin-cable
- Composite Video (CVBS), PIP Composite Video, S-Video (YC) signals to the 8pin-cable
- I²C-commands for switching on and off to another 6 pin-cable
The easiest way to apply these signals is to use an operational CVR700 and adapting the
corresponding cables. Please be sure that the quality of the adapter is OK, otherwise the image
quality may be unacceptable.
If the malfunction with the external signals is the same as with the internal signals the error is on the
Shielded Video Control Box. Otherwise the issue is located in the CVR700 DVD-Receiver.
