A r c h i t e c t u r a l S p e c i f i c a t i o n s
T h e preamplifier shall have two input c h a n n e l s with
separately adjustable gain controls accessible on the
front panel. E a c h input c h a n n e l shall a c c o m m o d a t e
an unbalanced high impedance microphone or line
input, or a balanced high or low impedance micro-
phone or line input with an optional a c c e s s o r y plug-in
transformer. O n e input c h a n n e l shall also a c c o m -
modate a magnetic phono cartridge input.
T h e preamplifier shall be capable of operating in
either of two modes. In the MIX mode, both input c h a n -
nels shall be mixed together with full gain available to
e a c h at all times. In the O V E R R I D E mode, C H A N N E L
1 shall be switched on and C H A N N E L 2 shall be
reduced in gain by 15 d B m w h e n the T R I P terminal
is connected to G N D .
T h e preamplifier shall be capable of +18 d B m output
level into an unbalanced 6 0 0
O
load [direct output}
and + 24 d B m output level into a balanced 6 0 0 O load
(transformer output]. F r e q u e n c y response in the audio
band shall be flat within ± 1 d B and distortion shall be
<0.2%, 30 H z - 2 0 k H z . T h e preamplifier shall o c c u p y
one standard E I A rack s p a c e and shall operate on
1 0 0 - 1 2 0 V A C or 2 0 0 - 2 4 0 V A C , 5 0 / 6 0 Hz.
I n s t a l l a t i o n
T h e 5152 is suitable either for rack mounting in one

bracing or ventilation, or for counter-top placement.
All external connections, M I X / O V E R R I D E switch and
matching/bridging transformer options are available
on the rear panel, Figure 1.
N O T E : All low-level amplification circuitry c a n be
adversely affected by strong magnetic fields. For this
reason, it is r e c o m m e n d e d that the unit be located at
least seven inches from any power amplifier or
similar s o u r c e of electromagnetic radiation.
V e n t i l a t i o n
T h e 5152 generates minimal heat during normal usage.
However, b e c a u s e transistors are heat sensitive, the
5152 should not be placed adjacent to heat-generating
equipment or in areas w h e r e the ambient temperature
exceeds 5 0 ° C (122°F) without adequate ventilation.
