ISSUE #2:  TOUCH SCREEN IS COMMUNICATING TO SOME RELAYS, BUT NOT ALL (continued)

1.  To determine if you have a bad chip, the easiest solution is to swap chips between boards.  Keep in mind that the
relay set beyond the failed chip are the relays sets that are affected.  Before removing and swapping the
communication chips, the power to the system AND to the devices must be turned OFF.  Keep in mind that there is
LIVE power coming into each relay set.

Failure to turn the power results in an electrical hazard!

If communication from the touchscreen to the relay boards is still an issue, contact Jaypro Sports to further

troubleshoot.  Be prepared to send photos of the touchscreen and relay enclosures.  We will also need to

know the project location, date of installation, and type/number of devices connected to the system.

With the power turned off, using a small flathead screwdriver
to gently pry off and swap the communication chips.  The
chips must be installed in the same orientation they are
removed.  You will notice a notch on the top of the chip.  This
notch must be aligned with the notch on the relay board, as
shown in the figure below.

Power on the system and devices and test.  If the chips is
known to be defective, the chip should be replaced.
Temporarily, the defective chip can be swapped out with the
farthest downstream relay pair set.  Again, the defective chip
only affects the relay set beyond.

EXAMPLE:  The image to the right shows a
system with a MAIN relay board and one
EXPANSION relay board.  Imaging that relay
pairs 5-8 on the main board and 1-4 on the
expansion board do not operate.  This
indicates that the communication chip for
relay pairs 1-4 on the main relay board has
failed.  By swapping out the communication
chip for relay pairs 1-4 on the main board
with the communication chip on the
expansion board, all relays should operate
as intended.  However, if another expansion
board is connected at another point in
time, communication to that board will not
be possible until the communication chip is
replaced.
