Attaching an external UHF/
GSM antenna
Depending upon which options you chose when
you purchased your OMEGA, the type of external UHF
antenna shown in this discussion may differ from
yours, but the procedure presented will remain the
same.
When doing RTK surveying, the reception of your
base station’s corrections by the rover can be en-
hanced using an external UHF antenna. Begin by at-
taching the external antenna. In this image, we see
the 2.5 dB gain antenna (30-597161-01) attached to
the Triumph-ls.
For the purposes of this discussion it is assumed
that you have already attached the external UHF an-
tenna, are in the field, the LS is powered on, that it’s
setup as the RTK rover, the RTK base is on and the
UHF radio is broadcasting corrections.
Anytime the UHF communications are interrupted;
such as in this example, it will take a few seconds up
to a minute or so for them to be reestablished.
Updates
Keeping your OMEGA up to date is nearly effort-
less; however, you do need to ensure that you have
Internet access in order to download the updates to
the various firmwares, softwares and even messages
from other users.
The OMEGA will automatically detect nearby WiFi
Access Points. For you to see those points detected,
as well as their respective signal strength, tap on the
WiFi icon in the top row of icons on the Home screen
and then at the bottom of that screen tap on Network.
Select the desired access point, tap on Connect, enter
the case sensitive password, if any, and you should
get connected automatically. You will see the chosen
access point change from blue to red indicating that
it is current.
Sometimes you may need to restart the unit for de-
tection of Access Points. This is a known issue with
the operating system that is presently being worked
on.
If you do not have WiFi or for some reason are un-
able to connect to it, but do have a wired local area
network, you can connect the OMEGA to your net-
work using a cable connected to the LAN port and
your network interface card or router.
The next option afforded for receiving firmware
and software updates is via your data plan associated
with your cell service provider and the previously in-
stalled SIM card. Depending on your data plan, some
fees may apply.
In all instances; WiFi, wired-LAN and 3G, the tar-
geted functionality is in the OMEGA being able to re-
ceive updates from JAVAD GNSS over the Internet. At
present, these types of network connections do not
extend to facilitating survey data transfers between
your PC and the receiver.
Option Authorization File
(OAF)
JAVAD GNSS issues an Option Authorization File
(OAF) to enable the specific options that customers
purchase. An Option Authorization File allows cus-
tomers to customize and configure the OMEGA receiv-
er according to particular needs, thus only purchas-
ing those options needed.
Typically, all OMEGA receivers ship with a tem-
porary OAF that allows the receiver to be used for a
predetermined period of time. When the receiver is
purchased, a new OAF activates desired, purchased
options permanently. Receiver options remain intact
when clearing the NVRAM or resetting the receiver.
