8Problem Solving

The problem solution chart lists basic problems that can occur during start and operation of the mower. For complete
information about the hydraulic and electrical systems, contact your Jacobsen Dealer.
Problem
Possible Cause
Action
Engine will not start
1.
Parking brake switch OFF, traction
pedal out of neutral, cruise control
switch ON or PTO switch ON.
2.
Battery low on charge or has
defects.
3.
Fuel tank empty or dirty. Water in the
fuel, air in fuel lines.
4.
Circuit Breaker tripped
5.
Relay has defects.
6.
Neutral switch not adjusted correctly
or has defects.
1.
Check the interlock and start procedure.
2.
Inspect the battery condition and
connections.
3.
Fill the tank with clean fuel. Change the
fuel filter. Drain water from water
separator. Bleed the fuel system.
4.
Reset circuit breaker, inspect electrical
system
5.
Test and replace the relay
6.
Adjust or replace the neutral switch
Engine is difficult to start
or engine runs rough
1.
Level of fuel is low, fuel or fuel filter
not clean.
2.
Air cleaner dirty
3.
Injectors, fuel pump.

Engine Problem
1.
Fill with clean fuel. Change fuel filter.
Drain water from water separator, bleed
fuel system.
2.
Inspect and replace air filter.

Engine Stops
1.
Fuel tank empty.
2.
The interlocks not set before you
leave the seat
1.
Fill with clean fuel and bleed the fuel
system.
2.
Turn the parking brake ON and turn the
PTO switch OFF before you leave the
seat.
The engine temperature
more than 230° F (110°
C).
1.
Level of coolant is low
2.
Air intake decreased.
3.
Engine fan belt loose or broken.
1.
Inspect and add coolant
2.
Clean air intake at radiator.
3.
Tighten or replace the belt.
The battery does not
hold a charge.
The battery light is
illuminated.
1.
Loose battery cables or corrosion on
the battery terminals.
2.
Low electrolyte.
3.
Engine fan belt loose or broken.
4.
Alternator has defects.
5.
Battery has a dead cell.
1.
Inspect and clean battery terminals,
Tighten battery cables.

Fill the battery.

Tighten or replace the belt.

Load test the battery.
Decks cut at different
levels.

Height of Cut not adjusted correctly.
2.
Engine speed below specification.
3.
Mow speed not adjusted for the turf
conditions
1.
Inspect height of cut adjustment. Make
sure same number of spacers below deck
housing on all spindles.
2.
Check the engine speed. Run the engine
at full throttle.
3.
Adjust the mow speed for best cut.
