3.2 Usage with macOS

3.2.1 Accessing or Disconnecting the ioSafe Duo in macOS

Accessing the ioSafe Duo

If the ioSafe Duo is already formatted, an icon representing it will appear on the 
desktop. Double-click on the icon to access it.  

If you purchased an ioSafe Duo with pre-installed hard drives and this is your first time using it, 

then you will need to reformat it before you can write files to it. 

If it’s unformatted, a message will appear on the desktop saying that the disk is 
unreadable. Use Disk Utility to easily format the drive (see Section 3.2.2). 

Disconnecting the ioSafe Duo

a.  Eject the ioSafe Duo before powering down the unit by dragging the ioSafe Duo’s 

icon to the 

Trash

, or by selecting the ioSafe Duo’s icon and then pressing 

Com-

mand + E

 on your keyboard. 

b.  Power off the ioSafe Duo. 

 

Turning off the ioSafe Duo or disconnecting it from your computer without following the 

procedure above can result in data loss.
