REPOSITIONING/REPLACING
FRONT CASTERS (FIGURE 14)

CAUTION

Replacing/repositioning the front casters can af-
fect the performance of the wheelchair. Contact
Invacare at the telephone numbers on the back
of this manual BEFORE performing this procedure.

Replacing Front Casters

NOTE: Both casters should be the same size.

1. Remove the bolt and locknut that secure the front caster

to the fork.

2. Remove front caster and axle spacers from fork.

3. Install NEW front caster and spacers onto the fork and

securely tighten with the bolt and locknut.

4. Repeat STEPS 1-3 for opposite front caster if necessary.

NOTE: WHEELCHAIRS WITH STANDARD FORKS: If
replacing front casters with a different size than what was
originally on the wheelchair, the front caster height MUST be
adjusted to keep the wheelchair frame parallel to the floor.
Refer to ADJUSTING FRONT CASTER HEIGHT in this
procedure of the manual ONLY after contacting Invacare.

NOTE: WHEELCHAIRS WITH SUSPENSION FORKS:
If replacing front casters with a different size than what was
originally on the wheelchair, the front caster height MUST
be adjusted to keep the wheelchair frame parallel to the
floor. Proceed to REPOSITIONING FRONT CASTERS
in this procedure of the manual.

Repositioning Front Casters

NOTE: This procedure is for wheelchairs with suspension
forks ONLY.

1. Remove the bolt and locknut that secure the caster

and axle spacers to the fork.

2. Install the caster, bolt, locknut and axle spacers

onto the fork in the desired mounting position.
Tighten securely.

3. Repeat STEPS 1-2 for the opposite caster if neces-

sary.

NOTE: If the casters have been repositioned and the
wheelchair frame is not parallel to the floor, the  caster
height MUST be adjusted. Refer to ADJUSTING
FRONT CASTER HEIGHT in this procedure of the
manual.

ADJUSTING FRONT CASTER
HEIGHT (FIGURE 15)

CAUTION

Changing the height of the front casters can af-
fect the performance of the wheelchair. Contact
Invacare at the telephone numbers on the back
of this manual BEFORE performing this procedure.

NOTE: When changing the seat-to-floor height, the rear
wheel/front caster size and/or the original degree of cam-
ber of the wheelchair, it becomes necessary to adjust the
front caster height so the wheelchair frame will remain par-
allel to the floor.

1. Place the wheelchair on a flat surface.

2. Loosen the locknut securing the caster headtube.

3. Position a large right triangle or "L" square on the

flat surface and against the caster headtube.

4. Adjust the height of the front caster by sliding the

fork stem up or down until the caster headtube is
flush against the right triangle or "L" square.
