counter, multiplies its value by 3, stores the result in a 16-bit data field and transmits the
product back to the client.
To actively tap this communication, we disconnect the client and server nodes from each
other, and then attach the client node to BroadR-Reach channel 1 of the RAD-Galaxy and the
server node to BroadR-Reach channel 2. We could of course do this the opposite way (client
to channel 2 and server to channel 1) and it would work the same. We could also have used a
different pair of channels (such as 3 and 4) but not channels from different pairs (such as 2 and
3).
If you want to duplicate this exercise, then set up any sort of client/server exchange using two
Automotive Ethernet nodes, and then connect them to the RAD-Galaxy in the same way we
have. After correctly tapping the link using channels 1 and 2, you should see the green activity
LEDs below the numbers 1 and 2 on the left side the device flashing. You can now go online to
monitor the traffic exchange using the RAD-Galaxy and Vehicle Spy.
Here are the steps to follow:
1. Launch Vehicle Spy:
Start Vehicle Spy by double-clicking its icon or selecting it from
the Windows Start Menu.
2. Select the RAD-Galaxy:
On the
Logon Screen
, select the RAD-Galaxy if it does not
already have a checkmark next to it. To do so, right-click the device name and choose
Select Hardware

3. Open Messages View:
Select
Messages
from the
Spy Networks
menu.
4. Adjust Messages View:
Select the “Ethernet” column set from the drop-down box near
the bottom of the screen. Also press the
button, located near the top left of
Messages View
, so messages show up in chronological order.
5. Go Online:
Press the blue arrow button in the top left corner of Vehicle Spy.
Vehicle Spy will now go online and begin showing you traffic coming from the RAD-Galaxy. You
will see two messages appear every 100 ms or so on the networks OP (BR) ETH01 and OP
(BR) ETH02, which are the messages our nodes are sending. There may be other traffic that
