Section 3, Installing the Exhaust System
3-4
The Hurricane
®
Chinook Heating System
•
Install an approved exhaust thru-hull in an appropriate location
(through the transom or side of the hull) at least 30” above the
water line. This thru-hull may be fitted with a fresh-air inlet
attachment (dual thru-hull). The fresh-air inlet consists of a
saddle-pipe that is mounted over an inlet hole on the side of the
thru-hull and secured with two gear clamps. The saddle pipe is
installed from the inside of the yacht after the thru-hull is
mounted in place. A fresh air inlet tube is attached to the saddle
pipe and run to the fresh-air inlet connection on the Hurricane
®
Chinook Heating System. Be sure your mounting location
accommodates the use of the fresh-air inlet saddle pipe.
•
Make sure the temperature rise of any combustible material
surrounding the exhaust parts does not exceed 50°C (90°F),
when the heater has been running continuously for 1 hour.
What NOT to Do
Don’t
position the exhaust close to combustible material without
adequate protection.
Don’t
mount the exhaust pipe inside the heater compartment.
Don’t
use more than 8’ of exhaust pipe if 180° of total bends are
present, excluding the one bend at the outlet of the heater.
Don’t
use any mufflers not supplied or approved by ITR.
Don’t
use too much muffler cement or exhaust sealant that you block
the exhaust system.
Don’t
over-tighten exhaust clamps or you may crush the Hurricane
®
Chinook Heating System’s exhaust outlet pipe.
