Event viewer message: A
device attached to the sys-
tem is not functioning
If there is a BIOS setting for "Plug and Play OS", it should be set to "NO"
for all versions of Microsoft* Windows*.
After upgrading operating sys-
tems, Intel
®
PROSet is no
longer available
If you are upgrading a Microsoft Windows operating system and you
have Intel PROSet software installed, it will be deleted in the process.
You will need to reinstall Intel PROSet.
Terminal Server support
When using Terminal Server, make sure only one session of Intel
PROSet is open at any one time. Simultaneous sessions are not sup-
ported in Intel PROSet.
Non-volatile memory integ-
rity check fails
Hardware diagnostics verify the authenticity of the non-volatile memory
(NVM), and return a "Pass/Fail" message. If the test fails, contact Intel
Customer Support.
Test the Adapter from Microsoft* Windows*
Intel® PROSet allows you to run several diagnostic tests, including:
l
Connection Test: Tests the adapter's connection to the network. If the adapter connects below its max-
imum speed, the connection test reports the reason for this lower speed. If the adapter has link but
does not have an IP address, the test reports whether the adapter can communicate with the link part-
ner. If the adapter has link and has an IP address, ping tests are performed.
l
Link Test: Tests the link speed and duplex capabilities of the link partner and reports the optimum set-
tings.
l
Cable Tests: Provide information about cable properties.
l
Hardware Tests: Determines if the adapter is functioning properly.
To access these tests, select the adapter in Windows* Device Manager, click the
Link Speed
tab, and click
Diagnostics
. A Diagnostics window displays tabs for each type of test. Click the tab and run the test.
The availability of these tests is dependent on the adapter and operating system. Tests may be disabled if:
l
iSCSI Boot is enabled on the port.
l
FCoE Boot is enabled on the port.
l
The port is used as a managability port.
l
The tests are being run from a virtual machine.
Test the Adapter from Microsoft* PowerShell*
Intel provides two
for testing your adapter.
l
Test-IntelNetDiagnostics runs the specified test suite on the specified device. See the Test-
IntelNetDiagnostics help inside PowerShell for more information.
l
Test-IntelNetIdentifyAdapter blinks the LED on the specified device.
