server canister. For 10 Gbps ports, it can auto negotiate with the minimum link speed of 1 Gbps. Only
Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) is supported.
Each ESS 3000 server canister also has three PCIe interface slots to support optional host interface
adapters. The host interface adapters can be supported in any of the interface slots. Table 17 on page
38 provides an overview of the host interface adapters.

Note: Each server canister within the ESS 3000 system (building block) must be configured with the same host
interface adapters.
Planning for adapters
Elastic Storage System 3000 contains two server canisters. Each server canister has three PCIe interface
slots to support extra adapters. InfiniBand and Ethernet adapters are supported in any of the interface
slots. In addition, each server canister contains four Onboard Ethernet ports and one SSR access port.
Important: Both server canisters in an ESS 3000 system (same build block) must be configured with the
same adapters.
Note: The server canister in the upper slot (slot 1) of ESS 3000 is inverted, so the adapter slots and port
numbers are numbered from right to left. The adapters and ports of the server canister in the lower slot
(slot 2) are numbered left to right.
