Chapter 4. Install removable media devices in iSeries 270,
800, 810, or 820
To install the removable media device, perform these tasks:
__ 1. Perform prerequisite tasks as described in Chapter 2, “Before you begin,” on page 3.
__ 2. “Power down the system unit” on page 31.
__ 3. If possible, use a wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging your hardware. If
you do not have a wrist strap, touch a metal surface of the system or expansion unit before
installing or replacing hardware.
If you received the 2209 Disposable Wrist Strap, follow these steps:
__ a.
Attach the disposable wrist strap. View video.
__ b. When you unroll the strap, remove the liner from the copper foil at the end.
__ c. Attach the adhesive part of the copper foil to an exposed, unpainted metal surface on the
frame of the unit.
Note: Follow the same precautions you would use without the wrist strap. The 2209 Disposable
Wrist Strap is for static control. It will not increase or decrease your risk of receiving electric
shock when using or working on electrical equipment.
__ 4.
Remove the unit covers. Refer to “Unit Covers” on page 33.
__ 5. Remove the blank from the system unit.
__ 6.
Follow the steps in “Details: Install removable media devices in iSeries 270, 800, 810, or 820” to
install the new device.

To install a removable media device, perform these tasks:
Note: The figures in these instructions may not look exactly like the server that you have. However, the
steps to perform the task are the same.
__ 1.
Find the package that contains the new removable media device and remove it from the package.
__ 2. Is the device you are installing an optical device?
__ Yes : Continue with the next step.
__ No : Go to step 4 on page 8.
__ 3. Refer to the following figures to place the optical device unit address jumpers
