Chapter 3. Installing Hardware
This section provides instructions for installing the IBM Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter
and connecting your SSA disk drives to it. (Be sure to save this guide for future
reference and use.) Before you begin, be sure you have read “Handling the Adapter” on
page 1.
Attention:
Do not remove the IBM Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter from its anti-static package at
this time.
Installing the Adapter
1. Be sure that you have read “Chapter 2. Preparing for Installation” on page 5. It tells
you to ensure that you have all the items required to install the IBM Advanced
SerialRAID/X Adapter.
2. Refer to the User’s Guide that shipped with your system unit to perform the
following:
a. Ensure that your system unit is shut down.
b. Remove the cover from your system unit.
c. Remove the IBM Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter from its antistatic package.
d. In some systems, you must remove the blue handle on the adapter before
installing it. To remove the handle, remove the two screws that fasten it to the
adapter.
e. Install the IBM Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter into the correct PCI slot. Your
system unit documents may specify which PCI slots should be used for storage
adapters to optimize performance.
f. Reinstall the cover to your system unit.
