Plan for power outages:
Consider purchasing an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to
protect your system against power fluctuations and outages. If your company owns an
uninterruptible power supply, involve your uninterruptible power supply vendor with any
type of uninterruptible power supply modification.
Plan an emergency power-off switch:
As a safety precaution, you should provide some
method for disconnecting power to all equipment in your rack. Put emergency power-
off (EPO) switches in locations readily accessible to your systems operator and at
designated exits from the room.
Ground or earth your system:
Electrical grounding is important both for safety and
correct operation. Your electrician should follow your national and local electrical codes
when installing the electrical wiring, outlets, and power panels. These codes take
precedence over any other recommendations.
Contact an electrician:
Contact a qualified electrician to take care of your PDU power
requirements and install the needed wall power receptacles. Give the electrician a copy
of your Power Information Table. IBM installers can also share reference wiring
diagrams to clarify your power sizing needs. Note that IBM installers will do the in-rack
power and signal cabling once the components and PDUs are racked.
Control Ports:
Each PDU contains a RJ45 port on the front (labeled Ethernet) to enable
organizations to monitor the electrical power usage of each receptacle and to remotely
switch any receptacle on or off. This can be done by Command Line Interface (CLI),
WEB Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Simple Management Network Protocol
(SNMP). PDUs also have serial port access through a dedicated RS232 port in the
front.
Control Port Limitation:
At this time, the intelligent management capabilities of the PDU
are not configured or used by the system. If organizations with Cloud Pak for Data
Systems would like to use this capability, it is their responsibility to configure the PDU
per the configuration section in this document and on the Knowledge Center. Flash
upgrades can be found on Fix Central.
Password:
The PDU is shipped with a generic PDU password. IBM strongly urges
organizations to change it upon installation. Some geographies using newer firmware
may require a password reset at first log in. If it is necessary to reset the password, be
sure to record the password for later use. Newer
