Uninterruptible power supply and battery care
For the best preventive maintenance, keep the area around the uninterruptible
power supply clean and dust-free. If the atmosphere is very dusty, clean the outside
of the system with a vacuum cleaner. For full battery life, keep the uninterruptible
power supply at an ambient temperature of 25°C (77°F).
Storing the uninterruptible power supply and batteries
If you store the uninterruptible power supply for a long period, recharge the battery
every 6 months by connecting the uninterruptible power supply to a power outlet.
The batteries charge to 90% capacity in approximately 4 hours. However, you
should charge the batteries for 48 hours after long-term storage. Check the battery
recharge date on the shipping carton label. If the expiration date has passed and
the batteries were never recharged, do not use the uninterruptible power supply.

Replacing the battery module (qualified personnel only)
CAUTION:
Lead-acid batteries can present a risk of electrical burn from high,
short-circuit current. Avoid battery contact with metal materials; remove
watches, rings, or other metal objects, and use tools with insulated handles.
To avoid possible explosion, do not burn.
Exchange only with the IBM-approved part. Recycle or discard the battery as
instructed by local regulations. In the United States, IBM has a process for
the collection of this battery. For information, call 1-800-426-4333. Have the
