PROBLEM 

POSSIBLE CAUSE 

POSSIBLE SOLUTION 

Engine will not start 

Fuel Valve OFF 

Move fuel valve lever to ON 

Choke OPEN 

Move choke lever to CLOSED 

unless engine is warm 

Engine switch OFF 

Turn engine switch to ON 

Out of fuel 

Refuel 

Bad fuel; engine stored without 

treating or draining petrol, or 

refuelled with stale petrol 

Drain fuel tank and carburetor. 

Refuel with fresh petrol 

Spark plug faulty, fouled or 

improperly gapped 

Remove and inspect spark 

plug. Clean, gap or replace 

spark plug 

Spark plug wet with fuel 

(flooded engine) 

Remove and inspect spark 

plug. Dry and reinstall spark 

plug. Start engine with throttle 

lever in FAST position 

Fuel filter clogged, carburetor 

malfunction, ignition 

malfunction, valve stuck etc. 

Take engine to a qualified 

repair centre. Replace or repair 

faulty components as 

necessary 

Engine lacks power 

Filter element clogged 

Check air filter. Clean or 

replace filter 

Bad or stale fuel 

Drain fuel tank and carburetor. 

Refuel with fresh petrol 

Fuel filter clogged, carburetor 

malfunction, ignition 

malfunction, valves stuck etc. 

Take engine to a qualified 

repair centre. Replace or repair
