Driving And Direction Changes
The H70--110XL lift trucks can have a three--speed manual
transmission or a single--speed powershift transmission.
The H135--155XL lift trucks can have either a four--speed
manual transmission or a two--speed powershift transmis-
sion. The following paragraphs are a short description on
how to operate the transmissions.
MANUAL TRANSMISSION.
If the lift truck has a manual
transmission, it will also have a clutch pedal and two con-
trol levers. One control lever is for direction control and the
other control lever is for the speed range.
To move the lift truck, release the parking brake. Depress
the clutch and select the first or second gear (first gear if
the load is heavy or the lift truck is on a grade). Select the
FORWARD
or
REVERSE
direction as required. Slowly
release the clutch the clutch pedal while the engine speed
is increased with the accelerator pedal. When the lift truck
is moving easily, depress the clutch pedal and select the
next higher gear. Again, release the release the clutch
pedal while increasing the engine speed. Make changes in
speed range selection smoothly so that the load on the
forks is always under control.
If the lift truck begins to move more slowly because of the
load or a grade, select a lower speed range. (Do not select
first gear when the lift truck is moving.) Depress the clutch
and select the lower speed range (lower gear). When the
second gear is selected from third gear, increase the en-
gine speed before releasing the clutch. Also change to a
lower gear before traveling down a steep grade.
To change directions, apply the brakes and depress the
clutch pedal to stop the lift truck. Move the direction con-
trol lever to the select the opposite direction. Select the
first or second gear as necessary. Select a higher gear as
necessary when traveling.
CAUTION
Prevent damage to the transmission. Stop the lift
truck to change direction of travel.
Stop the lift truck before selecting first gear. The
transmission can be damaged if first gear is selected
while the lift truck is moving.
POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION.
A MONOTROL pedal or
a direction control lever can be installed to control the
powershift transmission. If the lift truck has a MONOTROL
pedal, push on the left side of the pedal to go
FORWARD
or the right side of the pedal to go in
