laws

apply

your
area.
Requirements are generally available from
the Coast Guard or your local boating
industry.

Emergency Position Indicating
Radio Beacon (EPIRB)
Manual bailing device
Anchor with sufficient line and/or
chain
Flashlight with good batteries
Binoculars
VHF radio
Appropriate navigational charts
Flares
Fog bell
Noise emitting device
Radar reflector
Sufficient food and water
provisions
Auxiliary starting battery
Spare fuses and bulbs
Sunglasses and block
Blanket

safety examination.
LIFE JACKETS
A life jacket may save your life, but
only if you wear it. Keep jackets in a
readily accessible place
–
not in a
closed compartment or stored under
other gear. Remove them from any
packaging,
and
keep
throwable
floatation devices ready for immediate
use.
It is very important that children,
handicapped people, and non-swimmers
wear lifejackets at all times. Make sure all
passengers are properly instructed in use
of life saving gear
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Approved
fire
extinguishers
are
required
on
most
boats,
local
authorities can provide details. All
passengers should know the location
and operating procedure of each fire
extinguisher. Fire extinguishers are
normally classified according to fire
type. Be familiar with the type of fire
extinguishers you have on board.

an Automatic Fire Extinguisher

the event of a fire in your engine
compartment,
