Community
To simplify routing
policy application and
network maintenance
and management.
The peers in a peer
group share the same
policy, while the
community allows
devices from different
ASs to share the same
policy. The community
attribute is a route
attribute. It is
transmitted between
BGP peers and is not
restricted by the AS.

Suppressing Route Flapping and Improving the Efficiency of Route Transmission
On a large-scale network, frequent route flapping consumes a great deal of system resources.
To address this problem, you can configure route dampening and route aggregation.
To reduce the number of routes exchanged between BGP peers, you can configure route
aggregation. To improve the efficiency of BGP route transmission, you can configure BGP
outbound route filtering (ORF).
In addition, BGP peers need to exchange BGP messages frequently. To improve the efficiency
of BGP message transmission, you can configure path maximum transmission unit (MTU) auto
discovery.

Route
dampening
To prevent bandwidths
and Central Processing
Unit (CPU) resources
from being excessively
consumed in case of
frequent route flapping
and ensure proper
network operation.
Route dampening is
used to address the
problem of route
instability. Route
instability is reflected
by route flapping (a
route in a routing table
disappears and
reappears frequently).
