and footwear plus any safety wear
appropriate to the work in progress.

If it shows signs of damage or excessive wear, return it to
your local HSS Hire Shop.
Never leave the equipment switched ON and
unattended.
Lights get hot. Always leave them to cool before
touching them
and never remove or interfere with any
safety guards fitted.
Never use these lights in the presence of highly
inflammable vapours or liquids.
Information on COSHH regulations is available from your
local HSS Hire Shop.
Most HSS lights plug into a standard 13amp power
socket.
However,
110V lights
(with a round yellow
plug)
must be provided with a suitable 110V
generated supply,
or powered from the mains via a
suitable 110V transformer.
Leads should be fully unwound and loosely coiled,
away from the work area.
Never run them through
water, over sharp edges or where they could
trip someone.
Keep the equipment dry. Using electrical
equipment in very damp or wet conditions can be
dangerous.
If the equipment fails, or if its plug or lead gets
damaged, return it.
Never try to repair it yourself.
For Festoons: if a bulb fails ensure the festoon is
isolated from the power supply before replacing
the bulb.
For Safety Inspection Lamp: if the bulb fails DO
NOT attempt to replace it your self, return the unit
to your local HSS Hire Shop for a replacement.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
GENERAL SAFETY
To reduce the risk of electric shock, use a
suitable RCD
(Residual Current-Operated Device)
available from your local HSS Hire Shop, or power 240V
(not 110V) equipment from a power circuit with a
built-in RCD.
Never carry or pull the equipment by its flex.
Ensure the power socket is switched OFF before
plugging into the power supply.
If using a transformer to provide power, ensure
that the total power load is less than 75% of the
units power rating.
Position lights with care –
somewhere they won’t
easily be knocked and
where they won’t dazzle
drivers, this can be as dangerous as darkness.
Festoon...
Remove the lamp lenses (twist and pull) and place
somewhere safe. Run the flex along the desired
route,
taping or tying it in place at intervals along
its length.
Next, fit each bulb-holder with one of the 60W
light bulbs supplied and replace the lamp lens.
Inspection Lamp...
Uncoil the light’s flex, hook the lamp onto a
suitable support and point in the requ-
ired direction.
Coil excess lead neatly but loosely,
close to the
power supply and away from the work area where
people can’t trip over it.
All that now remains is to
plug the light into its power
supply, switch ON and check that it works
as it
should. In case of difficulty, contact your local HSS
Hire Shop.
