XP RAID Manager and array configurations
HORCM instances
To use XP Virtualization Adapter, HORCM instances X are needed on both sites (primary and
secondary), but remote communications are not needed between the instances. However, if XP
Continuous Access paired volumes are created using XP RAID Manager, remote communications are
needed. For failover testing, HORCM instance X+1 is needed. If HORCM X is not running, XP
Virtualization Adapter uses the auto option (
-auto
) to start it. XP Virtualization Adapter then tries to
start HORCM X+1.

Fibre Address conversion table
Because VMware ESX Server uses WWN and LUN number notation for device discovery, the Fibre
conversion table number for HORCM must be changed using $HORCMFCTBL variable.
C:\HORCM\etc> set HORCMFCTBL=3
C:\HORCM\etc> horcmstart
This variable is set to 3 automatically by XP Virtualization Adapter, but if the auto option (
-auto
) is
used, then the LUN number in
horcm.conf
must be specified as the same LUN number on ESX
Server or XP Remote Web Console.
