Mass Storage Module Configuration and Installation

The following provides the information for configuring and installing the new mass storage module.
Before configuring the new mass storage module, you need to know the type and location of the SCSI
devices that are going into the new module.

Mass Storage Module Configuration Guidelines

The following are guidelines on how to configure the mass storage module. The guidelines are divided
into two groups. The first group applies to all considerations of installing mass storage devices in the
mass storage module. If a CD–ROM drive is to be installed in the mass storage module, the second group
of guidelines also applies.

All Mass Storage Module Configurations

Ensure all the drives have their SCSI ID jumpers set prior to installation.

Attach the power and SCSI cable to the device before attaching the device to the
module.

A maximum of two fast wide devices and two single–ended devices can go into
the mass storage module

Mass Storage Module Configurations With CD–ROM Drive

Observe the guidelines stated above along with the following guidelines

A CD–ROM can only be put in the position diagonally opposite the F/W cable
entry into the mass storage module.

If a fast wide hard disk is located behind the CD–ROM drive, it must be turned
90 degrees, with the cable connectors toward the center of the mass storage mod-
ule, to allow proper clearances.

A DDS Tape drive or Floppy drive can only be positioned next to the CD–ROM.

Mass Storage Device Configurations

The following shows the positions of single–ended and fast wide mass storage devices in the mass stor-
age module.

Depending on your system, the entry point of the FW SCSI cable is at the front or the rear of the mass
storage module. Figure 2 shows the entry of the FW SCSI cable at the rear of the mass storage module
(Model 748). Figure 3 shows the entry of the FW SCSI cable at the front of the mass storage module
(TELEPACE).
