In this example, PASS is the parameter and p asswor d is the parameter v alue.
Y ou w ould substitute an actual passw ord in place of p asswor d to pro vide a
v alue for the parameter PASS . The syn tax diagram indicates that the v alue
p asswor d is optional within the optional parameter PASS .
P ositional parameters
The eect of a p ositional parameter dep ends on its lo cation in the parameter
list. In the syn tax diagram for eac h command, the comma (,) separates
p ositional parameters. If y ou omit a p ositional parameter from the list,
y ou m ust pro vide a comma placeholder that w ould normally precede that
parameter.
In the follo wing example, the parameter v alues that follo w the command are
p ositional:
LIMIT 10,32
In the follo wing example, a comma holds the p osition of the curren t v alue of
the rst parameter:
LIMIT ,32
