Viewing the event log
Use the following procedure to view the event log.
1.
Click
Start > Programs > Administrative Tools >Event Viewer
, or right-click
My Computer
and
select
Manage
.
2.
Click
Event Viewer
in Computer Management.
The Event Viewer window appears.
3.
See "
Windows miniport event log codes
" on page 24 for information about interpreting the event
codes.
Windows miniport event log codes
Obtain the relevant documentation from the Smart Component kit you used to install the driver as follows:
1.
Click the Smart Component.
2.
Click
EXTRACT
.
3.
In the pop-up window, select a folder for extracting the
fi
les, and click
OK
.
4.
Review the Storport miniport driver event information in
ELXSTOR Error Log Codes.doc

NOTE:
The Emulex Storport miniport driver record error events in the Windows System Event log. The Storport
and SCSIPORT miniport drivers have documentation that describes event log format and how to interpret
information contained within.Use the documentation speci
fi
c to the Storport miniport driver.
Linux driver events
If the lpfc driver detects any fabric or driver events, the information about these events reside in the
var/log/messages
fi
le. Check this
fi
le periodically to review any Linux driver events.
Setting the jumpers
Some custom applications use the device ID jumpers. Do not change the jumper settings for a standard
installation.
CAUTION:
HBAs contain electronic components that can be damaged by static electricity through an electrostatic
discharge (ESD) event. To prevent ESD damage, follow the instructions in "
Regulatory compliance and
safety
" on page 27. Handle the card carefully at all times, preferably by the edges. Avoid touching
electronic components and keep the card in the original packaging until you are ready for installation.
Each HBA has two six-post jumper blocks, one jumper block for each port, that control the HBA’s device
ID. You select the ID by installing a jumper between posts 1 and 2, or 3 and 4, or 5 and 6. If no jumper is
installed, the default device ID is 1AE5. Port 0 is the top transceiver, and port 1 is the bottom transceiver.
Table 6
shows the jumper settings for Port 0 and Port 1.
