S T E P 2 D issolve ab o u t 3 /4 cup of au to m a tic d is h w a sh e r
d ete rg e n t p er cell in eno ug h hot w a te r to c over
th e cells. If th e d ete rg e n t d o e s not dissolve
readily, or form s a s c u m on th e w a te r, try
a n o th e r brand, or use s o ften e d w a te r.
S T E P 3 A fte r th e d ete rg e n t has c o m p le te ly dissolved,
p la c e th e cells in th e c o n tain e r a nd let s o a k for
15 to 2 0 m inutes. A g ita te th e m up a nd dow n a
fe w tim es, a nd rem ove.
S T E P 4 N ext, w a s h th e prefilters th e s a m e w a y . Em pty
a nd rinse th e w a s h con tain er.
S T E P 5 R in s e th e cells a nd prefilters with a hard spray
of v e ry hot w ater; rinse th e tub c le an , then fill
th e tub with c le an hot w a te r a nd s o a k fo r 5 to 15
m inutes. R in se until th e w a te r draining fro m th e
cells a nd prefilters no longer fe e ls slippery.
S T E P 6 S o a k cells a nd prefilters in a final c le a r w a te r
rinse for 10 m inutes.
S T E P 7 W ip e th e ion izer w ires a nd c o n tact b o a rd on the
e nd of th e cell using you r th u m b a nd forefin g e r
with a sm all, d am p cloth.

U s e th e hand s p ra y e r at a c o in -o p e ra te d do-it-
y ou rself c a r w a s h to w a s h th e cells. H old the
n o zzle at least tw o fe e t a w a y fro m th e unit to
avoid d a m a g e (such as broken ion izer w ires or
b en t collector p lates) fro m th e high p ressure
s tre a m of w a te r. Follow th e s a m e s e q u e n c e of
w a s h a nd rinse as re c o m m e n d e d for cars.
H o w e v e r, do not w a x th e cells. Be sure to rinse
until th e w a te r draining from th e cells no longer
fee ls slippery.
