TROUBLESHOOTING

ENGINE SURGES

Be sure the pump housing is filled with water when the engine is started or mechanical seal damage will occur.

Loosen the fuel filler cap.

Fuel filler cap not venting.
Replace the fuel filler cap.

Partially apply the choke lever.

Does not stabilize

RPM stabilizes

Normal operation.

Drain the fuel tank and carburetor and refill with
fresh fuel.

Normal operation.
Advise customer to only use fresh fuel.

RPM stabilizes

Remove and clean carburetor. Replace intake
gaskets when reinstalling.
Inform the customer of proper storage procedures
and the importance of using fresh fuel.

Does not stabilize

RPM stabilizes

Allow engine to reach normal operating
temperature.

Inspect governor linkage and carburetor throttle
lever for binding.
Repair or replace the binding or damaged parts.
