EV601012 Volt Battery Test
With a 12 volt battery powering the field there is not enough voltage to power the control circuit. Therefore, it is necessary to bypass
some of its functions by doing the following:
a. Disconnect the ignition primary coil lead (black lead with the bullet connector near the oil fill). Attach a jumper lead to the ignition
primary grounding wire to the female connector so the engine may be stopped when necessary.
b. Unplug the fuel pump power lead (red). Attach a jumper wire from the red wire (male end) to the starter battery positive (+).
c. If the choke solenoid does not energize, manually push the choke linkage closed and start the engine. Hold the choke in the
closed position for about 5 seconds or until the engine is warmed up, then manually open the choke.
Check the following:
• Carbon deposits in combustion
chamber or spark arrester
• Governor not functioning properly
• Fuel system
• Engine compression
Repair as necessary and repeat load
bank test.
Problem is in the
load or customer
usage. Verify
generator usage.
