4. SPARK PLUG SERVICE
Recommended spark plugs:
BPR6ES (NGK)
W20EPR-U (DENSO)
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be properly gapped
and free of deposits.
CAUTION:
If the engine has been running, the muffler will be very hot.
Be careful not to touch the muffler.
1. Remove the spark plug cap.
2. Clean any dirt from around the spark plug
base.
3. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the
spark plug.
4. Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard
it if the insulator is cracked, chipped or
fouled. Clean the spark plug with a wire
brush if it is to be reused.
5. Measure the plug gap with a feeler
gauge. Correct as necessary by carefully
bending the side electrode.
The gap should be:
0.7–0.8 mm (0.028–0.031 in)
6. Make sure that the sealing washer is in
good condition, and thread the spark plug
in by hand to prevent cross-threading.
7. After the spark plug is seated, tighten
with a spark plug wrench to compress the
washer.
Torque: 20Nm (14.7 ft/lb)
8. Reinstall the spark plug cap on the spark plug securely.
CAUTION:
The spark plug must be securely tightened. An improperly tightened
plug can become very hot and possibly damage the generator.
Never use a spark plug with an improper heat range.
