As
the
cutter
penetrates the workpiece, the
pilot pin recesses into the arbor and tightens the spring. As a result, after
the
cutter
goes
through
the
entire thickness, the slug core is expelled from the cutter.

Annular cutters are designed to make only through holes shown in Fig. 4. When
drilling incomplete through holes the pilot pin must not be used.
